On that very happy evening when we learned that Ireland voted YES to marriage equality Wil and Patrick got engaged. Double cause for celebration!
A little over a year later the big day finally rolled around, and it really was a great and joyous day.
The lads decided on Kilkenny and the really impressive Langtons Hotel as the stage for celebrations. A great choice! They decided on a late ceremony and to do the few formal photographs before all their guests arrived. This meant that when the guests did arrive they were able to spend all their time with friends and family and not with me! Also a great choice!
Once family and wedding party were ready we all strolled over the road to Kilkenny Castle for a few formal group photographs. Back in Langtons the boys were able to have a drink and meet and greet their arriving guests. At 4 we were ushered in to the Set Theatre for the main event. There was hardly a dry eye in the house as Wil and Patrick entered the Theatre hand in hand. The emotion only being added to as their friend Manuela sang “For Good” from the musical Wicked. The beautiful and emotional ceremony was filled with loving words, wishes and sentiments as well as a good dollop of laughter! Not least of all at the announcement of the first reading as “a reading from Buffy the Vampire Slayer”!
I think it was the biggest cheer I have ever heard at a wedding when Wil and Patrick were pronounced husband and husband. Look how overjoyed they are!
Guests enjoyed some Rebel Red and Chieftain (Wil used to work next door to me in the Franciscan Well) before being ushered into the impressive Ballroom for dinner. The room is amazing as it is, but making it even more impressive were the elaborate centerpieces. Patrick stitched and crocheted a centerpiece for each table to tie in with their musical theme! Seriously impressive!
The evening continued as you would expect. Hilarious and moving speeches, fantastic food, a great band and lots and lots of dancing. I was delighted to be there to capture and witness it all.
